A word from our principal

Choosing a school for your child is one of the most important decisions that you will ever make because a good education is the best gift you will ever be able to give your children. Our aim is for every student to gain an understanding of God’s love for them.  Staff ensure students are given every opportunity to develop to the best of their ability by identifying individual needs and planning according to these needs.  While the development of Literacy and Numeracy skills is a focus, students are also given opportunities to develop physically, socially and spiritually.

Classroom teachers work closely with specialists in Music and are supported by experienced teacher assistants and Learning support staff.  Little Flower is an innovative and progressive school in which staff are supported in their own learning while students are taught the skills needed to become lifelong learners. At LF we believe we work in partnership with parents as we support each other. We value the communication we have with families and the support given to the school by the very active Parents and Friends Committee.  Look for help and support from your colleagues — we have a collective responsibility to serve each other as well as the students. You are not alone.

Also, we work to make a difference in the lives of every student we meet; however, not every student will succeed in the short time we have with them. This doesn’t mean we can give up on kids; it reminds us not to blame ourselves when we can’t reach a student. Often, the life lessons we teach are not realized until the students are ready to learn them — years after they have left your school.

I am passionate about students being empowered to succeed. As Principal, I use all tools available to inspire staff, students and community to work together to promote student achievement and well-being.  I am an avid supporter of effective and innovative professional development that encourages teachers and other staff to be reflective and to continuously examine our practice to provide quality teaching and learning for each student. My role as Principal is to keep up with latest trends and research and be an active partner in the school’s professional development.

The ability to be innovative and creative is important to me. I enjoy being challenged and inspired by the people around me. I aim to enthuse and challenge staff and students to also be inventive and imaginative in their learning and day to day tasks.I believe that having quality, inspirational and passionate teachers is essential to a school’s success. To borrow John Hattie’s words; “teachers should build classroom climates where errors are welcome, student engagement is the norm, questioning is high and students gain reputations as effective learners.”

I enjoy celebrating successes and acknowledge hard work of staff, students and community and believe this is one of the contributors fundamental to a happy school environment. All staff, students and community should feel valued and appreciated at school. Community engagement and involvement in the school is important to me as Principal. I regularly consult with my community as part of school self review and encourage community engagement in the curriculum and learning programmes.
